Introduction

Client overview

Data sources, queries, map styling, and the tools currently available in OpenGeo.

Add your own data or find a public source

OpenGeo is a web-based geospatial client for viewing, querying, and visually analyzing data. Add a source URL for GeoJSON, ArcGIS features or imagery, WMS, WMTS, or XYZ tiles. You can also use the connected catalog to find datasets, map services, and live feeds. Source access and available catalog entries depend on the deployment.

Search the catalog by location

Search for a dataset by name or topic, then narrow the results using the current map view, a place, or a saved area. Catalog searches use source coverage extents to find relevant entries; they do not query individual features. Review a source’s details and available capabilities before adding it to the map.

Query feature data

Queryable ArcGIS and dataflow layers offer a visual query builder. Combine attribute conditions in ALL or ANY groups, using the fields and operators supported by that source. Spatial conditions can use a saved area or pasted GeoJSON geometry. Area and distance filters are offered where the source supports them. A layer query controls the features fetched and displayed on the map.

Inspect records in the data analyzer

The data analyzer currently provides an attribute table for ArcGIS feature layers. Search attributes, sort columns, and page through records. Select a row to select its feature; double-click it or use Zoom to to locate it on the map. A table-local filter can narrow the records without replacing the layer’s saved map query. The analyzer is not available for every layer type.

Style data for visual comparison

Dataflow layers have controls for category-based styles, graduated colors and sizes, and rule-based symbols. Labels, clustering, and heatmaps provide additional ways to display supported data. These tools help with visual inspection; they do not calculate statistical relationships between layers.

Monitor updates and save your setup

Connected live feeds update features on the map through OpenGeo’s data services. Refresh frequency, available properties, and any retained history depend on the source. Live updates do not imply that past map states are available. Save a project JSON file to retain your map setup, and load it later to restore the saved state. Remote sources still need to be accessible.
